Star Wars Battlefront 2: Celebration Edition is still available for free on the Epic Games Store, but only until 11 AM tomorrow. There’s been no better time to get this game than now, excluding the downed servers from the immense popularity of the game.

BF2’s had a bit of a rough patch, with a mediocre-ish single-player campaign, with some issues when it comes to content in the game’s multiplayer modes. The fun parts of the game were incredibly fun, but were heavily overshadowed by EA’s incredibly controversial loot-box heavy monetization strategy.

Players were mad, the game was boycotted, and EA eventually reworked the entire game’s economy, ruining the game’s playerbase in the process. There were a few attempts to rebuild the once strong playerbase, but it took a lot of effort for EA to bring attention back to the game.

I was able to play the game since before it even launched, and that game that I played in November however many years ago, is not what the game is now. Dozens of updates later, we’re met a point where no more updates are on the way, and the original leveling system has been completely reworked.

Battlefront’s luckily, finally, to a point where the playerbase is recovering and growing back to where it was in the past, but it still took millions of dollars and several years to get there.

The game’s content

While the game’s campaign still isn’t the best for a Star Wars game, or even a normal game at that, the secondary addon for the game has made it way better than it was in the past, allowing you to experience an original Star Wars story. Through the eyes of Iden Versio, an Imperial officer who originally tried to destroy the rebellion, you get to explore the corruption within the Empire.

In terms of multiplayer content, you have a bunch of different modes, including:

  • Extraction
  • Ewok Hunt
  • Blast
  • Strike
  • Hero Starfighters
  • Starfighter Assault
  • Hero Showdown
  • Co-Op MIssions
  • Heroes vs Villains
  • Capital Supremacy
  • and Galactic Assault.

Each of these are pretty much completely different types of games, providing a pretty far reaching multiplayer experience.

Celebration Edition

Star Wars Battlefront 2’s Celebration Edition is everything in the main game, with some customization content included. And by some, I mean all content. The base game including all past and future game updates (pretty much no more, since they’re not really doing that).

You also get 25 hero appearances, including 6 legendary appearances. 125 trooper and reinforcement appearances are included as well, including a bunch of different skins for your troopers. There’s also 100 hero and trooper emotes/voice lines, allowing you to continuously annoy your teammates with repetitive lines. Last but not least, you get 70 victory poses, allowing you to pose. With victories.

Overall, the fact that this is not only free, but also Battlefront 2, gives you all the reason to go and get this game now, especially with the game blowing back up again. Hopefully it’ll keep EA interested in the community, possible with the chance of a Battlefront 3, which could be pretty fun.
