This month’s (December’s) PlayStation Now additions were announced today, with a total of six games listed on the blog. These include:

  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Stranded Deep
  • Broforce
  • Wreckfest: Drive Hard. Die Last.
  • The Surge 2
  • and Darksiders III
So without further ado, here’s the games, starting with a fan-favorite,
Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn is an action role-playing game developed by Guerrilla Games, and released as a PS4 exclusive. While the game eventually came to PC in late 2020, it’s long been held as one of the PS4’s greatest in-depth RPGs. This title was available on PS Now for a limited time before being taken off after a few months actually on the platform. With an 89 on Metacritic, here’s how Sony describes the game:

“Experience Aloy’s entire legendary quest, to unravel the mysteries of a world ruled by deadly Machines and in which mankind is no longer the dominant species. An outcast from her tribe, Aloy embarks on a journey to uncover her past, discover her destiny and stop a catastrophic threat to the future. In this third person action RPG, unleash devastating, tactical attacks against unique Machines and rival tribes as you explore an open world teeming with wildlife and danger. Horizon Zero Dawn on PS Now includes the huge expansion The Frozen Wilds, featuring new lands, skills, weapons and Machines.”

The game’s Complete Edition retails for $49.99.

Stranded Deep

Stranded Deep is a survival game, focused around your survival after a plane crash in the Pacific. The game currently sits at a 64 on Metacritic. Sony describes this game with:

“Test your survival skills in this open world adventure. In the aftermath of a mysterious plane crash, you are stranded in the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Alone, without any means to call for help, you must do what you can to survive. Explore underwater and on land as you hunt for supplies to craft the tools, weapons, and shelter you’ll need to stay alive. Stay sharp: hunger, thirst, and exposure conspire against you as you brave treacherous elements and the dangerous creatures of the Pacific.”

The game otherwise retails for $14.99.

Broforce

Broforce is a run and gun, side scrolling platform video game brought to you by Free Lives and Devolver Digital. This title’s 6 years old, and current has a 68 on Metacritic for PS4.

“Explode into battle as a team of up to four bros in side-scrolling run-and-gun platforming missions to eliminate the forces that threaten our way of life – or go head-to-head against other players in super destructive deathmatch modes. Unleash scores of unique weapons and set off incredible chain reactions of fire, napalm and flying limbs – all in the name of freedom.”

The game is available for $14.99 on the PlayStation Store.

Wreckfest: Drive Hard. Die Last.

Wreckfest is an arcade demolition derby racing game with some simulation thrown in. It supports 16 player online multiplayer through PS Plus as well. The game boasts an 82 on Metacritic, and PS’ blog describes the game as:

“Burn rubber, break rules and shred metal in this full-contact racer from the creator of the FlatOut. Race and upgrade patched-together cars, improving their looks and toughening up their body armour to survive the epic crashes and neck-to-neck fights over the finish line in competitive races. Enjoy some hilarity in Challenge modes as you get behind the wheel of crop harvesters, three-wheelers and much more, then challenge your friends online in multiplayer.”  

The game is available through the PS Store for $17.49.

The Surge 2

The Surge 2 is an action role-playing game, falling into the same category of Horizon Zero Dawn, even though both games have different stories and theming. This title’s the sequel to the 2017 The Surge. The game holds a 75 on Metacritic, and Sony describes it as:

“Explore the sprawling, devastated Jericho City in this unforgiving third-person action RPG. Fight numerous, ferocious threats, stealing valuable equipment to upgrade your abilities and make you strong enough to take on the most fearsome, imposing foes lurking across the city. With an expanded arsenal of weapons, armors, abilities, implants, and drones to build your character, and a bigger, more varied and more ambitious world, The Surge 2 challenges you to survive and unravel its hidden secrets.”

The game is on-sale currently for $16.99, but is usually $39.99.

Darksiders III

Darksiders III is the third game in the Darksiders series, which is a mashup of the past games with a new direction. It’s a combat role-playing game which released in 2018. The game currently sports a m e h 64 on Metacritic, and is described as:

“Assume the role of the most unpredictable and enigmatic of the Four Horsemen Fury as she hunts down and disposes of the Seven Deadly Sins hidden across an apocalyptic Earth. Explore an open-ended, living, free-form game world rich with secrets in this hack-n-slash action adventure, using Fury’s magic to unleash her different forms – each with unique weapons, moves and traversal abilities – to defeat all manner of enemies and explore the world.” 

The game is available through whatever store for around $20 even though it’s only been around for about 2 years.
